Assistant General Counsel
The Vines of Mendoza is looking to fill a spot on our legal team!
WHO WE ARE: The Vines of Mendoza is a multinational wine experience company based in Mendoza, Argentina, at the base of the Andes. The Vines operates a luxury resort and spa, a custom crush winery, and sells and manages over 1500 acres of private vineyards in the Uco Valley. Our private vineyards are individually-owned, professionally managed by The Vines and offered to wine lovers from 15 countries around the world who want to become enthusiast winemakers. The Vines makes amazing wines with its owners, taking charge of production and export to the door of our owners.
WHAT WE NEED: We are seeking a Bilingual (Spanish and English) Assistant General Counsel that is smart, driven, curious and up for an adventure. The work is substantive and complex, involving real estate closings, negotiation of international contracts, Delaware corporate governance practice, large and complex financing deals and debt facilities, as well as regulatory and compliance practices in Argentina and the US.
The perfect candidate will be seeking a challenge, have advanced problem-solving skills, and 3 to 10+ of years of experience either at a law firm or in-house. The position requires administrative management of the legal department, projects and workflow, so the ideal candidate will be extraordinarily organized and feel compelled to bring order to chaos. Strong math and mad excel skills would be looked upon favorably. We all copy, staple, print, and perform a wide variety of administrative tasks, including making coffee. The motto at the Vines is "Nada es Impossible."
Working knowledge of Spanish is required. Mendoza is largely Spanish only and a lot of our work, as well as the dialog in our office is in Spanish (or at least Spanglish) and we don't want anyone to feel left out (or to slow us down).
The hours we work are long and the work is intense, so having someone who is friendly and team-oriented is critical.
WHEN AND WHERE: The location is Mendoza, Argentina and we'd love to have someone here for the long-term. We ask for a minimum commitment of 2 years, as the learning curve is pretty steep. We are looking to fill the position and have someone here in Mendoza in the next 45-60 days.
WHAT WE OFFER: The position offers invaluable international corporate experience, as well as lots of asados (BBQs) and amazing wines. The experience is intense and varied, with immediate responsibility and direct client management on complex issues. The General Counsel is a UT Law '96 graduate and practiced commercial litigation in a large firm in Austin, Texas for 10 years before escaping to help start this business in 2006. She is interested in helping folks get immediate, substantive experience that will expand their analytical and problem-solving skills - which is what she believes makes the difference between a technically good lawyer and the one you want working with you when things get real. The Director of our Legal Department is Argentine with over 10 years of experience (5 with the Vines) who knows the Argentine legal and regulatory systems inside and out. Visa/Work Permit sponsorship are available. Salary commensurate with experience and Argentine legal market. (Translation: we may not get to the levels of a US firm, but our folks live very comfortably in Mendoza).
Knowledge of Spanish is required.
Licensure in a US or international jurisdiction is required.
3-10+ years' experience is required.
